During the month of December – better known as the season of celebrations – dishwashers go into over-drive. Between entertaining guests at your house and preparing sides or treats for holiday gatherings outside of your home, it seems like more pots, pans and dishes are getting dirty and that your home’s dishwasher is working around the clock.
While you may have recognized that your home’s dishwasher works hard during the holiday season you may not have realized that you are supposed to be cleaning your dishwasher every month!? STEP 1: CLEAR THE DRAIN
Remove the bottom dish rack. Inspect the dishwasher drain, removing any gunk or food caught there. This will improve drainage, increase cleaning efficiency and prevent damage to the dishwasher.
STEP 2: PUT VINEGAR IN DISHWASHER
Start with an empty dishwasher. Place a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher-safe container on the upper rack of the machine. Run the dishwasher through a hot-water cycle. This will wash away grease and grime and remove musty odors, too.
STEP 3: BAKING SODA RINSE
Sprinkle one cup of baking soda across the bottom of the dishwasher. Run a short, hot water cycle. The dishwasher will be fresh-smelling and have a brightened, stain-free interior.
It is as easy as that! Your dishwasher will be dirt, debris and germ-free. This regular cleaning will also keep it running at its most efficient.
