The ABCs of Heating

August 31, 2016

For back-to-school time we are taking it back to basics with the ABCs of heating. Another cold winter is on its way. Here are some heating system basics to keep you and your family comfortable all winter long:image of ABCs

A programmable thermostat saves you money.
You may initially look at the installation of a programmable thermostat as an expense, but it will save you up to $180 in it’s very first year! You’ll continue to save year after year, while becoming more energy efficient and gaining more control over the temperature within your home. PLUS – use the coupon below to save even more with the installation of a programmable thermostat in your home!

Basic maintenance should be professionally performed on your heating and cooling equipment each year.
Annual maintenance on your home’s heating system saves you money while providing peace of mind all season long. It also keeps your system running more efficiently while helping to protect your home from potential damage because of a heating system breakdown. And the time to tune-up is now, before the cold weather hits!

Change your filters regularly.
Regularly changing your heating system’s filter can save you up to 15% of your home heating costs. It will also help to extend the life of your heating equipment, keep your home’s air supply healthier and your heating system cleaner. Not sure how to change your system’s filter? Here are step-by-step instructions:

1. Purchase a brand new filter
Filters can be found at pretty much every home improvement store – double check your system’s make and model to ensure you pick up the proper filter.

2. Shut your HVAC unit down
Be safe! Make sure that all power to the unit is turned off.

3. Locate the filter
If you have trouble locating the system’s filter the manual should have a diagram that points it out.

4. Slide the old filter out
When removing the old HVAC filter be careful – it can be covered with dust, dirt and debris!

5. Slide the new filter in
It’s that easy! Just put the new filter into the slot.

6. Turn your HVAC system’s power back on
If you do run into any problems during the process give us a call – our technicians are on call 24/7 to help you out!
