Don’t Get Tricked By Your Plumbing!

October 30, 2016

With Halloween right around the corner, we have decided to put together a list of home plumbing ‘myths vs. facts’…or in this case, ‘tricks vs. treats’! Continue reading to ensure that you don’t get tricked by your home’s plumbing system this season!

Trick Or Treat? You shouldn’t worry about small plumbing leaks.
Don’t get tricked by small leaks! They add up to serious water waste. A leak at the rate of 10 drips per minute wastes 500+ gallons of water each year while a leak dripping at 1 drip per second wastes more than 3,000 gallons per year. Repairing small leaks can add up to big savings.

Trick Or Treat? Grinding up lemon peels in your garbage disposal will keep it smelling nice.
This is a trick. Although lemon peels will provide a pleasant smell, their fibers can clog your drain. All citrus peels should be thrown in the trash.

Trick Or Treat? Toilet bowl tablets that contain bleach are a good way to keep your toilet clean.
This is a trick. Having bleach sit in your toilet’s tank will cause the toilet’s parts to slowly deteriorate. We have also fixed hundreds of toilets that had a toilet tablet clogging the toilet’s drain or in a position to prevent it from flushing.

Trick Or Treat? You should take a shower instead of a bath to save water and energy.
This is a treat. When using a low-flow shower head (Don’t have one? Start saving water and energy with the coupon below!) you’ll average 15-25 gallons of water during a 10 minute shower. The average bath, on the other hand, uses between 30-50 gallons of water.

Trick Or Treat? Hair and fur can go down bathroom drains.
This is a trick. Human hair and animal fur that finds its way down bathtub drains after a bath or shower will ultimately cause a clog. Protect your drains with a simple hair catcher and you will save yourself from a future headache!
